Seven quilters are participating in a virtual bee by exchanging patriotic quilt blocks during 2002. Check back later for pictures of the blocks as they are created.
The QuiltersThis project was initiated by the Sew-un-sews small quilting group who were inspired by the 911 quilts at the 2001 Houston Quilt Show. When we met in January, 2002, we decided to do a patriotic block exchange. The quilters are:
Guidelines for our Patriotic QuiltDuring January, we purchased bunches of patriotic related fabric: two flag coordinating patterns, a striped flag & blue pattern, a gold, a red, a white with blue stars, a blue, a blue with gold stars, and a gray. For each exchange period (probably every two months) each person makes several identical 12.5" blocks using only the fabric that is in our patriotic selection. At each exchange, we give one block to each of the other quilters and keep one for ourselves. We'll repeat this process five times so that we'll each have 35 different blocks. The only design requirements for the blocks is to use only the selected fabrics and that each completed block is 12.5" when finished. The First Ten BlocksThe first ten quilt blocks:
